Song of the Day: "Big Dreams"
Disclaimer: the Game bares his ignorance/stupidity on this song by bragging about owning blood diamonds. Thankfully, the Cool & Dre beat makes all that inconsequential.
Like it or not, the Game has never made a less than stellar album. Off the top of my head, there are only three other people in hip-hop that I can think of in that category - Kanye West, Dr. Dre, and Pharoahe Monch. Only one of those artists is a particularly good rapper (hint: it's Pharoahe).
But, Game's talent - besides incredible beat-picking skill - is his chameleon-like ability to change from album to album (even, sometimes, from song to song). I can't think of one song that I can say defines the Game's sound. On this particular song, he seems to be working off of the Young Jeezy template, complete with crack references and ad-libs. On his last album, he seemed to be trying his hardest to sound like Dr. Dre. And on the album before, you could spot influences from Eazy-E to Jay-Z. And the Game would proudly admit that.
There's a point in there somewhere, but I'm too lazy to try to get to it.
