Song of the Day: "Range Life"
The Thrills made an entire (pretty good) album of songs that tried really hard to sound like "Range Life." If pressed, that's the one statement I would make about the massive talent of Stephen Malkmus & Co.
Pavement was a band so full of ideas that one jangly, jokey attempt to make a country/bluegrass (or country/bluegrass-mocking) song could serve as a template for another band's entire album.
PS - "Range Life" is also a diss track. This is the expensively-educated rocker's way of saying, "Fuck the Smashing Pumpkins as a staff, record label, and a motherfucking crew."
And if you down with the Smashing Pumpkins, fuck you too.
