I balk at defining myself in terms of party affiliation, partly because I balk at affiliation in general. But, also because (WARNING: big blanket statement approaching) the two-party system in the US is a shambles and does nothing to promote productive dialogue. Worse than unproductive, Democrats, Republicans, their talking heads and surrogates are totally counterproductive. No debate is too serious to cheapen with red herrings, sophistry, and buffoonery. This is not to say that there aren't some exceptional individuals involved, but unlike Billy O above, I have a strong enough grasp of statistics to disregard the outliers.
